In mid 2007 a project was started to provide more information about the estate and surrounding areas for visitors. Staff, tenants and ex-residents with assistance from the Historical Environment Scheme (Projects) and the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty -Sustainable Development Fund at Cornwall County Council worked together to produce a series of 4 leaflets and 2 interpretation boards.
Work was collated by staff in the Estate Office with access to the estate archive. This archive information was then combined with information and photographs covering the last 50 - 80 years (supplied by local residents) to produce the draft leaflets. It was then over to residents and our outdoor staff to check footpaths and access and to a local archaeologist who gave his time to investigate the archeological background for the leaflets.
Once all the information was sorted the boards and signs were designed and printed by the design department at Cornwall County Council.
Work was completed in April of 2008 and the leaflets are available at Porthluney Beach, East Portholland village and various other places around the area. There are now boards at Porthluney and Portholland with more detailed information. The main text of the leaflets can be downloaded by clicking on the pictures (opens in new window) above or if you would like copies of the full leaflets (including maps) these are available by post on receipt of SAE from Mary Kemp, The Estate Office, Caerhays, Gorran, St Austell.
