Public Access
Following Countryside Stewardship agreements between Caerhays Estate, The Country Agency and Defra, certain coastal fields have been designated as having all year round permissive access for the public for a defined 10 year period. These fields are coloured green on the map.
The coastal footpath and other public footpaths are also shown on the map. No sprays or fertilisers are used on these fields as part of the agreement to preserve traditional coastal grassland.

The following two maps highlight coastal walks recommended by Defra and another part of the estate which the public may enjoy. The path nearest West Portholland has been specially created by the estate to replace the old coast footpath which was eroded away by the sea.
Where the paths are shown in light blue are not public footpaths but permissive access is again available for a 10 year period.
The public are very welcome to enjoy the spectacular views from these coastal fields and to walk or picnic in them at their leisure. However please observe the normal common sense rules which all responsible users of the countryside take for granted.
- Please shut all gates behind you
- Please take your litter home
- Please keep your dog under control especially where sheep or cattle are present
- Please do not feed the cattle or get between a cow and her calf
All gates leading to fields or paths with permissive access should have sign or map boards on them. Unfortunately these do get vandalised from time to time during the course of the summer.
